Nigeria’s tech and startup ecosystem is gearing up for a new phase of growth following the election of Hanson Johnson, Founder and CEO of Start Innovation Hub, as the new Board Chairman of the Innovation Support Network (ISN) Hubs. His emergence has generated widespread optimism within the innovation community, with many viewing it as a strategic move that will strengthen and unify the country’s startup landscape.
Johnson described his election as both “an honour and a responsibility,” thanking the ISN community for their trust. He reiterated his commitment to advancing the network’s mission of positioning ISN Hubs as a leading force for innovation and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
The organisation—which now represents over 230 innovation hubs across 32 states—has grown into one of the most influential bodies driving Nigeria’s tech-enabled economic transformation.
Under Johnson’s leadership, ISN plans to elevate the operational capacity of innovation hubs nationwide, ensuring they are equipped with the tools, standards, and structures needed to run high-impact programs. He stressed the importance of hubs delivering quality training, mentorship, and support systems that enable startups to innovate, scale, and thrive.
A key priority of the new administration will be facilitating increased investment into Nigeria’s startup ecosystem. Johnson highlighted the need to create clear and efficient pathways that link entrepreneurs to capital, markets, and global opportunities. With ISN’s extensive membership base, he believes the network is uniquely positioned to curate a pipeline of well-prepared innovators ready for both local and international investment.
As the new chairman begins his tenure, expectations are high that ISN will deepen collaboration, strengthen capacity-building initiatives, and unlock greater economic value through innovation across the country.
