Amaechi Rules Out VP Slot, Confirms 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed speculation linking him to a potential vice-presidential slot with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 elections.

Through his media aide, Amaechi clarified that he is solely pursuing his own presidential ambition and will not serve as a running mate to anyone. The statement follows comments by Atiku ally Dele Momodu, who suggested Amaechi could be considered if Peter Obi declines Atiku’s ticket.

Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and key figure in President Buhari’s 2015 victory, is seeking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket. He reiterated that he supports Southern Nigeria producing the next president and emphasized that politicians should stop including his name in vice-presidential speculations.

This is consistent with Amaechi’s previous declarations in July and August 2025, where he expressed willingness to serve a one-term presidency to promote power rotation and political stability, and affirmed he would not step down for any aspirant during ADC’s primaries.
