The Adamawa State House of Assembly has called on Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to suspend the Executive Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, Simon Sashi, over allegations that he closed public schools without consulting the relevant authorities.
Madagali, Governor Fintiri’s home LGA, is among the areas in Adamawa most affected by insecurity, particularly attacks and abductions by Boko Haram militants. Despite the prevailing security challenges, Fintiri had earlier stated that the government had not ordered any school closures.
During Monday’s sitting, lawmakers recommended that the Madagali chairman be suspended for one month pending the outcome of an investigation by the Assembly’s joint committees on Education and Local Government Affairs.
The motion for suspension was moved by the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Kate Mamuno. Following debate, Speaker Bathiya Wesley directed the Assembly clerk to formally communicate the recommendation to Governor Fintiri.
