PDP: Damagum Hands Over to Turaki-Led NWC

Former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has officially handed over leadership to the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).

The tenure of the Damagum-led NWC expired on December 8, 2025, following a leadership tussle with the faction led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The handover ceremony took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Damagum encouraged the new NWC to unify the party, saying:

“The beauty of it is that we were able to surmount all the obstacles that we faced and we will continue to surmount them.”

He expressed optimism about the PDP’s future, noting that it remains a formidable political force:

“That’s why they lose sleep about PDP. They keep putting different hurdles in our way, but God will see us through. We are positive. God is a just God; He does not support injustice.”

Damagum also warned that those fueling crises in the party may enjoy temporary respite but will ultimately face consequences.

Tanimu Turaki, the new NWC chairman, praised the outgoing committee for their service and pledged to continue working toward the PDP’s progress.
