Activist Verydarkman has opened up about a private meeting he once had with former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, following news of the General’s nomination as Nigeria’s next Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu.
In a lengthy video posted online, Verydarkman recounted how the encounter stemmed from his public criticism of General Musa’s comments regarding the Yelwata massacre in Benue State.
Background: The Yelwata Attack
According to the activist, on June 14, 2025, suspected herdsmen launched a violent attack in Yelwata, Benue State, killing numerous residents.
Verydarkman said he visited the community the next day—June 15—where he recorded graphic evidence of the destruction. His footage went viral and drew national attention, forcing security agencies to react.
Following the outrage, General Musa appeared on national television to comment on the massacre. Unsatisfied with the General’s remarks, Verydarkman said he publicly criticised him, a move that drew the attention of the military.
“The Army Was Looking for Me” — Verydarkman
Two days after his criticism, he was informed that the Army wanted to see him. He was eventually taken to a military base in Asokoro, Abuja, where an unexpected encounter awaited him.
“When the door opened, I saw Christopher Musa—the same man I had blasted online,” he recalled.
General Musa’s Surprising Request
Verydarkman said that Musa ordered everyone else out of the room before speaking to him directly.
According to him, the General said:
“I need your help.”
Musa reportedly asked for detailed information about the situation in Yelwata—what Verydarkman had seen, the intelligence he gathered, and the insights he had obtained from locals who were familiar with the long-standing conflict involving Fulani groups.
The activist stressed that Musa’s willingness to seek answers from any credible source, including a vocal critic, impressed him.
“For a Chief of Defence Staff to call Verydarkman to his house and say, ‘I need your help,’ it shows he was genuinely looking for solutions. There was no pride.”
