Lagos Suspends Lekki–Epe Expressway Rehab Work Until January to Ease Festive Traffic

The Lagos State Government has ordered contractors handling rehabilitation works along the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway to vacate the site on Thursday, December 4, 2025, and resume in January 2026. The move is aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow during the Yuletide period.

The affected stretch runs from the Admiralty Way Junction to the Jubilee Bridge section in Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the suspension during an inspection tour of the corridor. Officials from the Office of Infrastructure, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the contractor, CRCC, were also present.

Osiyemi explained that halting work temporarily will help reduce gridlock and allow seamless vehicular movement over the festive season.

Lekki–Epe Bus Reform Scheme to Commence December 8

Meanwhile, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is set to launch regulated bus operations along the Lekki–Epe corridor starting December 8, 2025.

The first phase will deploy 229 high- and medium-capacity buses, covering major routes such as:

  • Ajah–CMS/Marina
  • Ajah–Obalende
  • Ajah–Oshodi
  • Ajah–Berger
  • Ajah–Iyana Ipaja

One operator will run express services, while others will provide stage-by-stage coverage to ensure broad commuter access.

All buses will feature:

  • Blue-and-white Lagos standard colours
  • QR-enabled PTCS verification stickers
  • Unique identification codes
  • Touch and Pay (TAP) stickers for seamless transactions

LAMATA stated that the initiative will enhance safety, comfort, and operational discipline, giving commuters a more reliable and secure public transport option. The bus service is expected to eventually extend to Epe.
