
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has presented the 2026 budget proposal of N861.337 billion to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a blueprint for transformation and improved governance.
Key details of the proposal:
- Capital expenditure: N714 billion (83% of the budget)
- Recurrent expenditure: N147.28 billion (17%)
- Sectoral allocations:
- Education: N65 billion
- Health: N87 billion
- Agriculture: N86 billion
- Public order and safety: N45 billion
- Environmental protection: N22 billion
- Social protection: N17 billion
Governor Lawal emphasized that the budget aims to consolidate reforms, rebuild infrastructure, enhance security, modernize agriculture, improve healthcare delivery, and expand education access, especially for youth and vulnerable groups.
He also highlighted fiscal discipline, noting that recurrent expenditure aligns with international subnational standards to prevent operational costs from impeding developmental goals.
The governor urged lawmakers to review and approve the proposal promptly to enable effective implementation.
