Fulani Herdsman Urges Tinubu Government to Block Entry of Foreign Herders Smuggling Weapons

A native Fulani herdsman in Abuja has called on the Bola Tinubu-led government to immediately stop foreign herders from entering Nigeria, warning that many smuggle weapons and commit violent acts wrongly attributed to local Fulani communities.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the herdsman emphasized that genuine Nigerian Fulani herders are law-abiding citizens who face danger from unchecked migration and land disputes. He criticized the government for failing to secure borders, allowing armed foreigners from Libya, Niger, Chad, and other conflict zones to enter the country.

He urged authorities to implement a comprehensive education and social-integration program for Fulani children in remote grazing areas, saying:
“Talk to the government… pick our children and educate them—not forcefully, but support us.”

The herdsman also proposed that the government officially allocate permanent grazing reserves equipped with schools, healthcare, and roads. On taxation in exchange for these services, he said:
“Yes. It is simple. With the population now, everybody knows we must organise everything.”

While calling for fairness and an end to collective stigmatization of Fulani people, he also acknowledged the need for good leadership within Fulani structures to prevent corruption and mismanagement of resources.

His message comes amid rising tensions linked to farmer-herder conflicts, banditry, and foreign armed groups along Nigeria’s northern borders.
