A fresh wave of online drama erupted on Thursday after Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, publicly praised Wizkid—a move that quickly drew a reaction from Davido.
Governor’s Aide Declares Support for Wizkid
The controversy began when Gawat shared a promotional poster for Wizkid’s December 28 concert at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
Captioning the image, he wrote “Ọmọ wa ni” (“He is our son”), signalling admiration for the Grammy-winning star.
Fans immediately joined the conversation. One user declared:
“Wizkid is the face of Lagos. Baba Bolu always promotes Lagos.”
Gawat agreed, replying:
“Yes correct. We are proud of him.”
Another fan then asked:
“Ore oga nko?”—a subtle reference to Davido.
Gawat responded:
“My Oga is proud of him.”
Davido Responds Directly
Davido soon jumped into the thread, clearly irritated by the aide’s comments.
He wrote:
“Bro, it’s been a year, let it go… why is it still doing you… grow up.”
He then referenced an older tweet where Gawat had described him differently, adding:
“Since yesterday… let it go nah… cheer up.”
Online Buzz Intensifies
The exchange quickly spread across social media, with fans from both camps reigniting debate about the long-standing rivalry between the two Afrobeats giants.
Screenshots of the conversation have since gone viral as the discussion continues to gather attention.
