Ford Recalls Nearly 109,000 Vehicles in U.S. Over Liftgate Hinge Cover Issue

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall of 108,762 vehicles in the United States due to a safety issue involving an improperly secured liftgate hinge cover that could detach while driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects 2020–2022 Ford Escape models as well as the 2025 Escape, highlighting ongoing quality-control challenges for the automaker in its popular SUV lineup.

Details of the Recall

Dealers are instructed to inspect affected vehicles and reinstall or replace any missing liftgate hinge covers, free of charge to vehicle owners. The recall ensures that the liftgate remains securely fastened during operation, reducing the risk of accidents caused by parts detaching while on the road.

Additional Lincoln Vehicle Recall

Separately, Ford has recalled nearly 12,000 Lincoln MKT vehicles from 2016–2019. In these vehicles, the driver and front passenger B-Pillar door trim may detach, creating a potential hazard that could increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will perform inspections and make necessary repairs at no cost to owners, as mandated by the NHTSA.

Implications for Consumers and the Automotive Industry

These recalls underscore the importance of vehicle safety compliance and proactive quality assurance. Owners of affected models are advised to contact their local Ford or Lincoln dealerships to schedule repairs immediately.

Industry analysts note that while recalls are common, high-profile issues with widely sold models like the Ford Escape and Lincoln MKT can impact consumer confidence and brand reputation.
