The Women for Democratic Accountability (WDA) has expressed concern over Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s escalating media offensive, warning that it threatens the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
In a statement signed by Hajia Zainab Mohammed, WDA criticized Natasha’s December 5, 2025, social-media post and other public comments, describing them as part of a pattern of incendiary rhetoric in her ongoing dispute with the Senate, led by Senator Godswill Akpabio.
The coalition noted that the senator has frequently chosen media confrontation over judicial processes, despite the matter being before the courts. As a female leader and lawmaker, Natasha was urged to uphold decorum, restraint, and respect for institutions.
WDA warned that her sweeping remarks, which it said ridicule the Senate, disparage the Senate President, and cast doubt on the courts, could erode public confidence in democratic pillars.
“This reckless media crusade does not empower women. It does not strengthen institutions. It does not promote justice,” the statement read.
The coalition also expressed concern that the senator’s provocative statements and “courtroom-in-the-media” declarations risk turning a serious legal dispute into a performative spectacle aimed at inflaming public sentiment. WDA urged the judiciary to caution litigants against statements capable of prejudicing ongoing proceedings, emphasizing that no individual should pollute judicial processes with inflammatory commentary.
The statement concluded by stressing that the dignity of the Senate, the authority of the courts, and the credibility of women’s leadership must not be sacrificed for media grandstanding, and called on Senator Natasha to allow the courts, not social media, to determine the merits of her claims.
