Oworonshoki Demolition Victim Appeals for Government Help

A 63-year-old resident displaced by the Oworonshoki demolition in Lagos State has cried out for immediate help, describing the ordeal as harrowing and inhumane.

Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’, the woman revealed that many affected residents are stranded with nowhere to sleep, some even forced to take refuge in water tanks. She recounted that some indigenous residents received N200,000–N300,000 before the demolition, but this has proven insufficient to secure new homes.

The victim said the demolition occurred without prior notice, leaving families vulnerable, including the elderly and those with medical conditions. She pleaded:

“We are not goats; we are not animals. The government should please help us. Some of us are sleeping on the streets, some inside water tanks. We cannot continue like this.”

She appealed to the Lagos State Government, traditional rulers, and well-meaning Nigerians to provide urgent assistance and protection for those affected, emphasizing the need for compassion and humane treatment in the wake of the demolition.
