President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Senate President Godswill Akpabio on his 63rd birthday, lauding his long-standing public service and notable contributions to Nigeria’s development.
In a personally signed message released on Tuesday, President Tinubu described Akpabio as “a patriot and a dedicated servant of the people,” whose devotion to the Nigerian project has remained steadfast throughout his many years in leadership.
He recalled Akpabio’s tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015, noting that he introduced transformative infrastructure projects and a bold development vision that earned him the popular title “Uncommon Governor.”
According to the President, Akpabio’s administration “made Akwa Ibom a top competitor in the national economy, providing critical infrastructure and building one of the most iconic stadia in the country,” achievements that remain benchmarks to this day.
After leaving the governor’s office, Akpabio moved to the Senate and later served as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, where President Tinubu noted he focused on accelerating development in the oil-producing region.
He also commended the Senate President’s role in strengthening cooperation between the executive and legislative arms, as well as his support for policies aimed at fostering national peace, security and development since taking charge of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023.
“As co-labourers in the service of our nation, I have always admired his strength of character and his ability to remain undaunted in the face of challenges,” President Tinubu said, applauding Akpabio’s “unwavering belief in Nigeria and commitment to its progress.”
Tinubu concluded by praying for continued good health, strength, and impactful leadership for the Senate President, as his colleagues, associates and well-wishers joined in celebrating his 63rd birthday.
