American singer Jason Derulo has revealed that he will no longer allow himself to be alone in a room with any female colleague, following a sexual harassment lawsuit that has trailed him for nearly two years.
Derulo explained that although the case has been dismissed twice in different jurisdictions, the ongoing legal battle has still cost him millions of dollars in lost brand deals and strained relationships.
Speaking in an interview with Graham Bensinger, he said:
“I will never be alone in a room with a woman that I work with… ever, ever again. That case was dismissed twice. And I lost so many brand deals, relationships off of a story that was not even slightly believable. Why didn’t they post the dismissal at least? Wouldn’t that be fair?”
The interview follows the news that aspiring singer Emaza Dilan has refiled her sexual harassment lawsuit against Derulo in New York, after similar cases were previously dismissed on procedural grounds in both California and Nevada.
While no court has yet ruled on the substance of Dilan’s allegations, Derulo said the reputational damage has already been severe. He shared that the situation has forced him to rethink how he engages with women in professional environments, adopting stricter boundaries to protect himself from future claims.
