Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has become the focus of growing interest from Saudi Arabia’s Pro League, with sources revealing that the kingdom’s wealthy football investors are prepared to pursue the Egyptian forward during the upcoming winter transfer window.
Saudi Arabia Eyes Salah for January Transfer
A source from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) confirmed that the kingdom is monitoring Salah’s situation closely. “We follow Salah’s position thoroughly and believe there can be a move either by loan or buying his contract,” the insider said, speaking anonymously.
While no formal negotiations have taken place with Liverpool, the source emphasized that a move could occur “at the right moment,” with Saudi clubs eager to bring one of the Arab world’s biggest football stars to the region.
The PIF holds controlling stakes in clubs including Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad, though other Saudi clubs, such as Aramco-owned Al Qadsiah, are reportedly also interested.
Joining a Star-Studded League
Salah would join a growing roster of global stars in Saudi Arabia, including former Liverpool teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, Darwin Nunez at Al-Hilal, and N’Golo Kante at Al-Ittihad. The 33-year-old winger is widely considered one of the most accomplished footballers from an Arab country, making him a highly coveted signing.
Tensions at Liverpool
Salah’s potential departure comes amid mounting tensions at Liverpool. After being left out of the squad for a 3-3 Premier League draw with Leeds, Salah expressed frustration, saying he felt “thrown under the bus” and indicated strained relations with manager Arne Slot. He was subsequently omitted from Liverpool’s squad for their UEFA Champions League tie against Inter Milan.
Despite these issues, Salah has had an iconic career at Liverpool, contributing to two Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph. He extended his contract in April 2025, following a stellar season in which he scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists.
This season, however, has been challenging for Salah and Liverpool alike. The club currently sits 10th in the Premier League table, with Salah scoring only four goals in 13 appearances.
Looking Ahead
Salah is expected to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations after Liverpool’s next home match against Brighton. He hinted that this game could be his final appearance for the Reds before a potential winter move.
According to the PIF source, Salah’s signing would have a major impact both on and off the pitch, boosting the Saudi Pro League’s profile globally. “Salah is a beloved footballer around the globe and will have a massive impact on the Saudi League,” the source added.
