Senior clergyman Bishop Abioye has sparked debate online after claiming he resolved a major car fault through prayer and anointing, rather than spending ₦2 million on spare parts.
According to the bishop, mechanics had informed him that fixing his car would require expensive replacement parts. Instead, he reportedly poured anointing oil over the engine, prayed, and commanded the vehicle to function in Jesus’ name. Bishop Abioye said the car then started working immediately, which he described as a testimony of faith rather than mechanical intervention.
“When they tell me my car is giving any problem, I tell them to bring oil for me. I open the engine, that is the head of the vehicle, and pour it inside. Then I tell it to behave,” he said.
The bishop encouraged believers not to allow challenges to overwhelm them, asserting that faith can overcome situations that seem impossible.
Social Media Reactions
The story has divided Nigerians online, with opinions ranging from admiration for his faith to skepticism about practicality.
- @mrboboskie: “Spiritual confidence is meaningful, but mechanical issues still need mechanical solutions. I go need this kind anointing on top my car sha.”
- @theyfwRayan: “Some people look up to this fraud.”
- @nnazoro: “As ridiculous as this sounds, it works if you have faith in God through Jesus Christ. It’s not the oil that works the miracle but your trust in God. I personally have similar experiences.”
- @davidoghe: “Funniest thing is, there are mechanical engineers in the church and they’ll shout amen too.”
The debate continues online, with many questioning the balance between faith, miracles, and practical solutions.
