Troops from the 8 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army have conducted a coordinated operation against armed bandit groups in Sokoto and Zamfara States, resulting in the deaths of five suspected bandits and the seizure of weapons, motorcycles, and communication equipment.
A security source disclosed that the operation commenced in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting known hideouts of armed groups in border communities across both states.
The offensive focused on Gangara, Makawana, Satiru, Baici, and Kurkusu villages in Isa Local Government Area, Sokoto State, where troops advanced and disrupted bandit activities. The operation later extended to Batamna village in Shinkafi Local Government Area, Zamfara State, where troops faced resistance from armed elements.
“In the course of the encounter, five suspected bandits were neutralized, and weapons, motorcycles, and Baofeng radios were recovered,” the source confirmed. The operation has reportedly reduced the capacity of bandit groups to operate freely along the Sokoto–Zamfara axis and forms part of ongoing efforts to deny these groups safe havens.
The source also noted that previous operations by the 8 Division had successfully eliminated suspected bandit leaders, including Kachalla Kallamu and Kachalla Na’Allah, in Sabon Birnin and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
Security stakeholders, including retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, have commended the Nigerian Army and other agencies for their sustained efforts in combating banditry.
Residents of affected communities have expressed hope that the ongoing military operations will restore security and allow displaced persons to return home safely.
