Burna Boy, Olamide Make Obama’s Favourite Music List for 2025

Former United States President Barack Obama has released his annual list of favourite books, movies, and music for 2025, with Nigerian Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Olamide earning spots on the highly anticipated music selection.

Obama shared the lists on Thursday, continuing a tradition he began during his time in the White House. Among the songs he selected were “Tatata” by Burna Boy featuring Travis Scott, and “99” by Olamide featuring Daecolm, Seyi Vibez, Asake, and Young Jonn.

Also making the list was “Not In Surrender” by British-Nigerian singer Obongjayar, further highlighting the growing global influence of African and diaspora artists.

Other notable musicians featured on Obama’s 2025 favourite music list include American stars Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Lady Gaga, Gunna, as well as Canadian rapper Drake.

Announcing the list on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obama wrote:

“As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favorite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy.”

The inclusion of Nigerian artistes underscores Afrobeats’ continued rise on the global stage and its growing resonance with international audiences.
