Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene following a fresh attack on farmers in Igboho, his hometown in Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Igboho raised the alarm on Monday after three farmers were reportedly killed during an alleged attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the Oke-Ogun axis of the state. The victims were identified as Aderoju Mukaila, Olawuwo Saka, and Ojeniyi Ojebayo.
According to reports, the farmers were attacked after confronting herders accused of destroying their farmlands with grazing cattle. Although they were rushed to the hospital for treatment, they later died from their injuries.
In a statement issued to journalists, Igboho expressed concern over what he described as the worsening insecurity in rural communities across Oyo State and the wider South-West region. He urged the Federal Government to take decisive action to prevent further loss of lives.
“On Sunday, three innocent people were killed in my town, Igboho. This is exactly what I have been warning the government about for years. Sadly, nothing has changed, and our people remain vulnerable,” he said.
Igboho stressed the need for improved security in the Oke-Ogun area, noting that residents of Igboho and surrounding communities now live in constant fear. He also warned that continued inaction could push affected communities to resort to self-help.
He further called on security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, arrest those responsible for violent attacks, and ensure swift prosecution to deter future incidents.
“The Federal Government must deploy effective security measures to stop these criminal activities and restore peace. Actionable intelligence should be used to prevent attacks and protect lives and property,” the statement added.
