Terrorism Allegation: Oluwo Dismisses Claims, Says Iwo Is Peaceful

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has dismissed allegations of terrorist activity in Iwo, Osun State, describing the claims as false, unfounded, and malicious.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, the monarch said the reports were deliberately fabricated by enemies seeking to undermine the town’s security framework and disrupt its long-standing religious harmony.

Oba Akanbi was reacting to reports surrounding the alleged invitation and arrest of Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan by the Department of State Services (DSS) over terrorism-related claims.

The Oluwo insisted that Iwo remains one of the most peaceful towns in Nigeria, stressing that repeated attempts to tarnish the image, values, and security record of the town would fail. He maintained that Iwo’s reputation for peace and safety remains intact.

He described the reports as a calculated effort to weaken the town’s security architecture by discrediting the Jaysu Security Network, which he said plays a critical role in maintaining law and order in Iwoland.

The monarch warned that individuals spreading what he termed “non-existent and misleading information” were engaging in acts of “social media terrorism,” adding that legal action would be taken against those involved.

Oba Akanbi also defended Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen, led by the Grand Mufty of Yorubaland, Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan, describing the organisation as reputable and committed to national security and educational development.

According to him, the organisation has operated for more than two decades and manages over 40 educational institutions, including a private College of Education and orphanage homes.

He further stated that the organisation’s security arm has contributed significantly to tackling insecurity in Iwo and its surrounding communities, working closely with the Nigerian Police Force to arrest criminal elements.

The Oluwo said the group’s contributions to education and security informed his decision to confer the title of Grand Mufty of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta on Sheikh Molaasan.

“The report alleging the presence of a terrorist group in Iwo is false and unfounded,” the monarch said. “Iwo remains one of the most peaceful towns in the South-West, largely due to the activities of the Jaysu Security Network.”

The statement added that Jaysu Security Network remains the most trusted and active local security outfit in the town, collaborating with the police to ensure safety and stability.

Oba Akanbi concluded by warning that efforts were already underway to identify and arrest anyone spreading false information aimed at discrediting Iwo and its security institutions.
