Members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad, who finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), have officially received their national honours certificates, as well as title documents for houses and land allocations promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The presentation took place on December 22, 2025, at the team’s hotel in Fez, Morocco, ahead of Nigeria’s opening match in the new AFCON qualifying campaign.
The ceremony was led by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), and attended by dignitaries including Senator Abdul Ningi, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale, and NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.
Most players received the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON). However, Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen were awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), while team captain William Troost-Ekong received the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) for his distinction as Player of the Tournament at AFCON 2023.
Dikko confirmed that all national honours, housing allocations in Abuja or Lagos, and land grants in Abuja had been processed, with allocation letters issued. The Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General are finalizing the direct payment of $100,000 per player into their bank accounts.
He also noted that similar rewards for the Super Falcons and D’Tigers (Nigeria’s men’s basketball team) have been processed. The development underscores Nigeria’s renewed focus on structured athlete welfare and accountability, allowing the Super Eagles to refocus on their ongoing AFCON qualifying campaign.
