The Delta State Police Command has clarified its position regarding the withdrawal of police officers assigned to protect Very Important Personalities (VIPs), emphasizing that the process is being carried out fairly and professionally.
Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe stated that recent allegations suggesting officers remain attached to a resident named Sunny Nwakaego in Sapele are false. He assured the public that the command is fully complying with the Federal Government directive, implemented nationwide by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to withdraw officers from VIP duties and redeploy them to core policing roles.
“The claim that officers continue to serve the mentioned individual is incorrect and should be disregarded,” Edafe said. He added that any exceptions, such as responding to distress calls or disputes, are handled professionally, with statements recorded and investigations ongoing.
The statement also emphasized that the Delta State Police Command continues to prioritize public safety while implementing government policies transparently and efficiently. Members of the press were urged to verify information directly with the Police Public Relations Officer before publication.
