Jovon Makama Secures Norwich City Victory Over Charlton Athletic

Norwich City continued their resurgence under new head coach Philippe Clement, as Jovon Makama scored the only goal to secure a 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic at Carrow Road. The result extends Norwich’s unbeaten run to six games and brings them just a point from Championship safety.

Norwich Start Strong

Norwich dominated the first half but struggled to convert chances into goals. Makama struck the post early, demonstrating his predatory instincts in front of goal. The striker, filling in for Josh Sargent, also set up a long-range effort for Kenny McLean and came close to finishing a Ben Chrisene cross, showcasing his growing influence on the team.

Charlton failed to register a meaningful shot on target during the opening 45 minutes, as Norwich controlled possession and looked comfortable at home. Ruairi McConville and Matej Jurasek had attempts for the visitors, but Thomas Kaminski was rarely troubled.

Makama Breaks the Deadlock

The breakthrough came early in the second half when Norwich capitalized on a swift attacking move. Jacob Wright played a firm pass into Makama, who controlled it, swivelled, and powered a right-footed strike from 12 yards into the net. The goal was Makama’s fourth in three games, underlining his key role in Norwich’s attacking resurgence.

Makama nearly doubled the lead later with an excellent cross to Jacob Wright, and Oscar Schwartau was kept out by Kaminski in the closing stages, but Norwich held on for a deserved 1-0 victory.

Manager Reactions

Philippe Clement, Norwich City head coach, praised his side’s defensive and attacking performance:

“It’s been a very good day – not only winning, but also a first clean sheet since August… The team did a very good defensive job against a team that’s really dangerous with long balls, set pieces, and duels.”

Curtis Flemming, Charlton Athletic assistant manager, lamented his side’s lackluster performance:

“It was a real opportunity to go and get a result away from home, and I don’t think we were anywhere near where we could have been… For us to be competitive in this league we have to be the best version of ourselves every Saturday for 90 minutes.”
