Ranchi/Jamshedpur, Dec 27, 2025: Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened in Jharkhand as the state prepares to host President Droupadi Murmu for a multi-city visit, officials confirmed on Saturday. The visit, which spans from December 28 to December 30, will see the President travelling to Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Gumla, attending key cultural and academic events. Authorities have announced traffic curbs, deployment of thousands of security personnel, and aerial surveillance to ensure a smooth and safe visit.

President Murmu is scheduled to land at Birsa Munda International Airport in Ranchi on Monday morning. Following her arrival, she will be transported to Jamshedpur via helicopter, where she is slated to attend the centenary celebrations of the Ol Chiki script, which is widely used in the Santali language. This marks a significant cultural milestone for the Santali community and Jharkhand at large. Additionally, she will address the 15th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur, acknowledging the contributions of students, faculty, and alumni. After completing the programme, she will return to Ranchi to retire for the night at Lok Bhavan.

The next leg of the President’s itinerary includes a visit to Gumla on December 30, where she will attend and address a scheduled programme. Following the conclusion of the Gumla visit, she will depart from Jharkhand.

In anticipation of her travel, the Directorate of Civil Aviation has issued a 200-metre no-fly zone for drones, paragliders, and hot air balloons along the route from Birsa Munda Airport to Lok Bhavan, which covers key locations including Hinoo Chowk, Birsa Chowk, and Argora Chowk. The no-fly zone will remain in effect from 6 am on December 28 to 10 pm on December 30.

Security authorities in Ranchi have confirmed that extensive measures are being taken to secure all key locations. Speaking to PTI, Ranchi Superintendent of Police Paras Rana stated that approximately 2,000 security personnel will be deployed across the city. This includes monitoring of critical routes, positioning personnel on high-rise buildings for surveillance, and implementing anti-sabotage checks at important points. Drones will also be actively used to monitor the President’s movement and surrounding areas, enhancing situational awareness for the security forces.

In Jamshedpur, the East Singhbhum district administration conducted a high-level review to assess preparations for the President’s arrival. Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi instructed officials to ensure robust security arrangements, organized traffic management, and beautification of programme venues. Key areas were identified for repair, painting, and lighting improvements to ensure smooth conduct of the events and a dignified environment for the President’s visit.

Similarly, in Gumla, Deputy Commissioner Prerna Dikshit and Superintendent of Police Harish Bin Zamanreviewed the security and logistical arrangements. They emphasized the need for completion of all preparations within the stipulated timeframe and stressed inter-departmental coordination to avoid any lapses during the visit.

Traffic management has also been a significant focus, with the Ranchi Traffic Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singhannouncing temporary restrictions on the movement of vehicles during key hours. Entry of large and small goods vehicles will be restricted at specific times: from 4 pm to 8:30 pm on Sunday, 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday, and 8 am to 4 pm on Tuesday. Around 1,500 traffic personnel will be deployed in the city to enforce these curbs and ensure smooth vehicular flow on alternate routes. Heavy goods vehicles will be diverted to the Ring Road, bypassing the main city roads affected by security arrangements.

Furthermore, complete vehicular restrictions will be enforced along key routes from Hinoo Chowk to Lok Bhavan on Monday from 2 pm to 8:30 pm. Specific roads affected include Birsa Chowk, HEC Gate, Argora Chowk, Shahjanand Chowk, Kishoreganj Chowk, New Market Chowk, Hotlips Chowk, Ram Mandir Chowk, ATI More, Randhir Verma Chowk, and the SSP Residence area. Vehicles traveling from Jamshedpur and Bundu to Ranchi will be rerouted via Tatisilwai, while Jamshedpur-bound traffic from Ranchi will follow a path through Durga Soren Chowk to Tatisilwai and then via the Ring Road.

The security arrangements are not limited to road closures and traffic management. Police and administrative authorities are coordinating closely to ensure that all logistical, emergency, and medical services are readily available throughout the visit. Anti-sabotage checks, drone monitoring, and strategic deployment of security personnel across key urban and suburban points are intended to safeguard the President and maintain public safety.

Officials emphasized that public cooperation is critical during the visit. Commuters have been advised to avoid the restricted areas, follow traffic diversions, and comply with instructions issued by the traffic and security personnel. The administration has also urged local residents and businesses to adhere to temporary restrictions and ensure that they do not obstruct the smooth conduct of events.
