UP Government Ensures No Poor Person Suffers Amid Severe Cold, Says CM Adityanath

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring that no poor or needy person suffers during the ongoing severe cold wave affecting large parts of North India.

Speaking after inspecting two night shelters in Gorakhpur city, the chief minister highlighted the “double-engine government’s” proactive measures to tackle the harsh winter. Adequate funds have reportedly been released to all districts to support blanket distribution, operation of night shelters, and bonfire arrangements in public areas.

Inspection of Night Shelters

During his visit to night shelters near TP Nagar Pass and Dharmshala Bazaar, Adityanath interacted with the occupants and reviewed the facilities available. He emphasized that district administrations have been directed to provide all necessary amenities at shelter homes, including sufficient beds, warm blankets, cleanliness, and food for those without means. Expressing satisfaction with the arrangements, he personally distributed blankets and meals to the homeless, assuring them of the government’s continued support during the extreme weather.

Measures for Extreme Cold Conditions

The chief minister noted that due to intense cold waves sweeping across North India, district magistrates have been empowered to close schools and declare holidays if needed, with provisions for online classes in unavoidable situations. He urged public representatives and officials to remain engaged in distributing blankets and woollens, lighting bonfires at public places, and ensuring smooth functioning of night shelters.

As part of the relief efforts in Gorakhpur, 480 bonfires have been arranged across the city, and over 22,000 needy persons have already received blankets and woollen clothes.

Appeal to Citizens

Adityanath appealed to citizens with resources to extend help to the needy, emphasizing community support in mitigating the impact of harsh weather. He also advised people to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel in dense fog, and maintain proper hydration even during winter months.

The chief minister’s visit underscores the UP government’s ongoing efforts to address the challenges posed by severe winter conditions, particularly for vulnerable populations, and highlights a coordinated approach involving district administrations, public representatives, and government agencies.
