Anambra Government Rejects Chieftaincy Title Given to Minister Bianca Ojukwu, Calls It Fake

The Anambra State government has disowned the chieftaincy title of ‘Anyanwu N’Awalu Ora’ reportedly given to Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, saying it was conferred by an impostor and not in accordance with state tradition.

In a letter dated December 31, 2025, signed by Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, the government clarified that only recognized traditional rulers have the authority to bestow chieftaincy titles. The letter noted that Minister Ojukwu’s purported title did not meet the required conditions, including approval from her own community and the state government.

The letter identified the alleged conferrer, Chief Austin C. Ndigwe, as “not a traditional ruler in Awka or Anambra State”, calling him “simply an impostor.” It explained that the recognized traditional ruler, HRH Gibson Nwabueze Nwosu (Eze Uzu II) of Awka, remains alive and officially recognized.

The government described the incident as a violation of Anambra’s cultural and legal standards, criticizing Ojukwu for publicly endorsing the title and warning her to stop using it. The state reaffirmed its commitment to protecting cultural institutions and maintaining the integrity of traditional rulership.
