The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has urged pregnant women and nursing mothers to shun quack medical services and make use of government healthcare facilities for safe maternal care.
Mrs. Otti gave the advice on Thursday at Akrika Ukwu Primary Healthcare Centre in Ukwa East LGA, where the first baby of the year, Miss Oluebubechi Nwatuobi, was delivered. She expressed delight that the baby was born in a government-run facility, emphasizing it as a reflection of the improved functionality of Abia’s primary healthcare system.
Highlighting the benefits of government healthcare centres, Mrs. Otti said that pregnant women and nursing mothers receive better attention and care. She presented the newborn and her mother with cash, food items, and other essentials to support maternal nutrition and wellbeing during the nursing period.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, noted that in the past, some women lost their lives to quack practitioners, a situation the administration of Governor Alex Otti has been addressing.
The parents of the newborn, Mr. Nwatuobi Chiagozie and Mrs. Blessing Chinagozie, thanked Mrs. Otti for her generosity and support.
