MultiChoice Secures New Multi-Year Deal with Warner Bros. Discovery

MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has successfully retained the distribution rights for 12 Warner Bros. Discovery thematic channels following a newly signed multi-year, multi-territory agreement between CANAL+ Group and Warner Bros. Discovery. This deal marks a major expansion of their long-standing partnership.

The agreement spans several regions across Africa and Europe and includes the distribution of HBO Max, alongside the renewal of selected Warner Bros. Discovery thematic channels. It represents a key milestone in the companies’ international collaboration, strengthening MultiChoice Group’s content offerings across its territories.

MultiChoice highlighted that the deal builds on previous European partnerships. “It builds on landmark agreements in France in 2024, including the renewal of the exclusive pay-TV window for Warner Bros. Pictures films just six months after their theatrical release, and the integration of HBO Max in select CANAL+ group offers. In Poland, in 2025, the agreement renewed distribution for 22 thematic channels, including TVN 24 and Eurosport, as well as four free-to-air channels, such as TVN,” the company stated.

Under the renewed arrangement, MultiChoice Group will continue distributing 12 Warner Bros. Discovery thematic channels across its territories, with some channels offered exclusively in specific markets. CNN International and Cartoon Network will remain exclusive to South Africa but distributed non-exclusively elsewhere. Cartoon Network Porto will be exclusive in Angola and Mozambique, while other channels—including Discovery Channel, TLC, HGTV, Food Network, TNT Africa, Travel Channel, ID, and Cartoonito—will be offered on a non-exclusive basis.

The partners emphasized that the deal strengthens CANAL+ Group’s channel portfolio in Africa. “This agreement allows CANAL+ Group to enhance its entertainment, kids, news, and documentary channel offerings in African markets,” they said.

The partnership also aims to improve access for CANAL+ Group subscribers to Warner Bros. Discovery’s premium content through HBO Max and select channels, featuring globally recognized series and films. This not only extends the studio’s international reach but also consolidates MultiChoice’s position as a leading content provider in key markets.
