Keith Urban Urges Fans Not to Overanalyze Lyric Changes Amid Nicole Kidman Divorce

Keith Urban is asking fans not to read too much into the lyrics he tweaks during live performances, amid his recent separation from actress Nicole Kidman. The 57-year-old country music superstar addressed the topic during his performance at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Friday, October 17, marking the final stop of his High and Alive World Tour.

Lyric Changes Spark Speculation

Before performing his 2002 hit, You’ll Think of Me, Urban addressed the audience directly: “I’ve been covering like this for a long time. Stop reading s— into it. It’s called ‘You’ll Think of Me.’”

During the performance, he altered the song’s lyrics, changing the line “But you’ll think of me” to “But I betcha think about me!” He also replaced “Take your space and take your reasons” with “all your bulls— reasons”, prompting fans to speculate whether the changes were related to his high-profile divorce.

Urban’s lyric adjustments are not a new phenomenon. He recently modified lines in his 2016 chart-topping duet with Carrie Underwood, The Fighter, which was originally inspired by a conversation with Kidman before their marriage. During one performance, Urban swapped the lyrics to include his rising country star utility player, Maggie Baugh, singing, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player,” instead of the original line. Baugh, 25, shared the moment on Instagram, highlighting the playful nature of Urban’s stage improvisations.

Divorce Context

Nicole Kidman, 58, filed for divorce from Urban on September 30, 2025, following 19 years of marriage. The couple, who married in June 2006, share two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith, 14. While the separation has been highly publicized, Urban has chosen to focus on his music and performances rather than comment on his personal life publicly.

Lighthearted Moments on Stage

Despite the divorce news, Urban maintained a sense of humor during the Nashville show. When interacting with a fan, he joked about a name misunderstanding, leading to playful theatrics onstage that delighted the crowd. Videos from the event show Urban lying on the stage for a moment, raising his arm to the sky, and interacting with fans with characteristic charm and energy.

Focus on Music

Urban’s statements and stage behavior underline his commitment to separating his personal life from his professional work. By encouraging fans not to overanalyze lyric changes, he emphasizes that live performances are meant to be a celebration of music rather than speculation on private matters. His High and Alive World Tour continues to showcase his dedication to his craft and his ability to entertain audiences worldwide, despite life’s personal challenges.
