Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, arresting one suspect during a prompt response operation.
The incident occurred when personnel from the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, part of Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, were on their routine patrol. They received an urgent distress call reporting an ongoing robbery in the Nasarawan Doka area and immediately deployed to the scene.
Confirming the operation in a statement on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Shuaib Umar, stated that upon arrival, the troops engaged the armed robbers and swiftly neutralized the threat.
“On arrival, the troops confronted the armed robbers and successfully neutralized the threat,” Umar said.
One suspect, identified as Kabiru Zayyanu, was apprehended after sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg. He was promptly taken to Doka General Hospital for first aid treatment.
While the remaining members of the gang fled into nearby areas, the troops pursued them, but no further contact was made.
The operation resulted in no casualties or abductions, the statement emphasized.
The arrested suspect, Zayyanu, will be handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation and legal action once initial inquiries are completed.
Umar reassured the public of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining a strong security presence along the highway and surrounding areas to deter criminal activities. He also urged the public to report any suspicious movements promptly to security agencies.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies,” he added.
