Akhilesh Yadav Alleges Police Complicity in Kanpur Minor Rape Case; ADG Called ‘Scrap Mafia’

Kanpur, Jan 8, 2026: Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Uttar Pradesh government and Kanpur police over the alleged rape of a minor girl in Sachendi, accusing senior police officials of complicity. He referred to the ADG in Kanpur as part of the “scrap mafia”, claiming that officers with questionable past conduct have been posted to positions of authority in the city.

Speaking to reporters, Yadav criticized the state police and administration for alleged negligence and interference in law enforcement. He recalled previous incidents of police inaction and cited his visits to regions like Sonbhadra, where he claimed lives were lost due to mine-related incidents and complaints were not properly registered.

The Kanpur case involves the alleged rape of a minor girl. Initial complaints were filed against unknown individuals, and as the investigation progressed:

  • Two suspects were identified; one has been apprehended.
  • The name of a police sub-inspector surfaced in connection with the crime.

Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed that raids are ongoing to arrest the absconding sub-inspector. He said four police teams have been deployed for this purpose.

Commissioner Lal stated that disciplinary action has already been taken against negligent officers:

  • The Station House Officer (SHO) of the concerned police station has been suspended.
  • Upon arrest, the absconding sub-inspector could face dismissal from service based on evidence.

  • Congress MP Pramod Tiwari condemned the alleged involvement of a policeman, calling it “very unfortunate” and emphasizing accountability within the police force.
