Agartala, Jan 8, 2026: Tripura witnessed a notable improvement in its law-and-order scenario in 2025, with overall crime declining by 8.3%, marking the lowest crime figures in two decades, according to DGP Anurag Dhankar.
The total number of registered cases in the state fell from 4,033 in 2024 to 3,698 in 2025, reflecting a sustained effort by the police and administration to curb crime.
Decline in Violent Crimes
Several categories of serious offenses recorded double-digit declines:
- Murder cases dropped by 18%, with 95 cases in 2025 compared to 116 in 2024.
- Hurt and assault cases fell by 14.23%, from 815 to 699.
- Rioting incidents decreased by 26%, with only 17 cases lodged last year, down from 23 in 2024.
Crimes Against Women
Incidents targeting women also saw a positive trend, with an 8% decline overall:
- Total cases fell from 724 in 2024 to 665 in 2025.
- Dowry harassment reduced from 256 to 206 cases.
- Rape cases decreased from 180 to 169.
Road Safety
Road accidents in the state also declined:
- Total accidents fell by 8.8%, from 578 to 527.
- Fatalities dropped 12.8%, from 226 to 197 deaths.
NDPS Challenges
However, not all crime categories showed a decrease. Cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act increased by 11%, from 470 in 2024 to 522 in 2025, indicating continued challenges in tackling drug-related offenses.
DGP Dhankar highlighted that these statistics reflect the sustained efforts of the Tripura Police in maintaining public safety and curbing violent crime, while acknowledging areas like drug-related offenses that require renewed focus and intervention.
