FG Allocates N1.096 Trillion for Electricity Capital Projects in 2026 Budget

The Federal Government has earmarked N1.096 trillion for electricity-related capital projects in its 2026 appropriation bill, with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) receiving the largest share of N502.21 billion.

The Federal Ministry of Power, led by Chief Adebayo Adelabu, was allocated N416.748 billion for capital projects, alongside N10.379 billion for recurrent expenditure (personnel: N6.168 billion; overhead: N4.211 billion), bringing the total electricity sector budget to N1.107 trillion.

Key projects include:

Provision of amenities at 38 resettlement sites: N987.9 million (schools, solar boreholes, roads, health centres, land surveys).

Distribution expansion programme to utilize stranded grid power: N840 million, with N400 million allocated to each of six regions.

Delta University mini-grid construction: N280 million.

Ughelli–Federal University of Petroleum Resources 33kV dedicated line (300km): N52.5 million.

Rehabilitation of Aliameh injection substation in Agbor, including a 7.5MVA transformer: N350 million.

The budget emphasizes strengthening rural electrification, expanding grid access, and completing regional power infrastructure to improve electricity supply nationwide.
