A major fire on Tuesday engulfed the RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station in the Ofiki area of Saki, Oyo State, completely destroying the facility, a petrol-laden tanker, and a motorcycle.
The Oyo State Fire Services Agency Chairman, Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. He said the agency received a distress call from Alhaji Mufutau Badmus, Saki Branch Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), prompting immediate action.
Firefighters, led by Kolade Taiwo, rushed to the scene and found the filling station, a DAF tanker carrying 50,000 litres of petrol, three fuel pumps, and a Bajaj motorcycle engulfed in flames. The team successfully extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby properties.
Akinwande commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel for providing security during the emergency and urged all filling station owners in Oyo State to strictly adhere to fire safety guidelines.
