Emma Raducanu has secured her first victory of the 2026 season, overcoming Camila Osorio in a rain-interrupted match at the Hobart International.
The 23-year-old British star, currently ranked world number 29, had taken the first set 6-3 but fell behind 4-2 in the second before play was suspended due to rain on Tuesday. Returning to the court on Wednesday, Raducanu fought back to win the second set 7-6 (7-2), completing a straight-sets victory and letting out a triumphant roar at the finish.
Match Highlights
- First Set: Raducanu 6 – Osorio 3
- Second Set: Raducanu 7 – Osorio 6 (7-2 tiebreak)
- Osorio briefly led 4-2 in the second set before Raducanu staged her comeback.
The top seed avoided the challenge of playing two matches in one day after second-round opponent Magdalena Frech withdrew with injury, giving Raducanu a smoother path into the quarter-finals.
She now faces Australian wildcard Taylah Preston on Thursday as part of her preparations for the Australian Open, the year’s first Grand Slam in Melbourne beginning Sunday.
Raducanu Reflects on Tough Conditions
Speaking after her win, Raducanu said:
“Very, very difficult match. We played under all conditions and coming on and off a few times was really difficult. I don’t think I’ve had many matches like this before. Camila played an incredible match, and I’m really pleased with how I turned it around today.”
The victory over 82nd-ranked Osorio marked Raducanu’s first competitive win since September 2025, after her previous season ended early due to injury. Her off-season was also disrupted by light bone bruising on her right foot, which delayed her return to full practice.
Road to Recovery and Form
Raducanu’s 2026 season started slowly, with a first-round loss to Maria Sakkari at the United Cup just two weeks after returning to hitting in practice. However, her performance in Hobart shows resilience and determination, overcoming both injury setbacks and challenging weather conditions.
This win is a key boost ahead of her Australian Open campaign, where she aims to make a strong impact in the first Grand Slam of the year.
