
Staff of SUNU Group, a pan-African insurance company, marked the third anniversary of the passing of its founder, Dione Patte, with thanksgiving services and prayers across Africa, from Nigeria to other countries where the Group operates. Employees gathered in churches and mosques, wearing white at Christian services, to honor his vision, humanity, and enduring impact.
Dr. Samuel Ogbodu, CEO of SUNU Assurances Nigeria, highlighted Patte’s lifelong commitment to Africa’s development and his focus on creating employment and building strong institutions. He emphasized that thousands of families continue to benefit from the founder’s vision, making annual remembrance a sign of gratitude.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to growth and recapitalization, aiming to raise ₦9 billion through a rights issue and private placement, while expanding operations across Africa, including opening a new office in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Elie Ogounigni, Executive Director at SUNU, described Patte as an institution builder whose vision was designed to outlive him. Staff shared personal testimonies of how Patte shaped their careers, underlining his legacy of mentorship, people-focused leadership, and Africa-centered development.
