Teyana Taylor had a truly unforgettable moment at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards when she met her idol, Julia Roberts. The One Battle After Another star, 35, was visibly emotional on the red carpet as Roberts, 58, embraced her in a heartwarming encounter that left Taylor in tears.
A Tearful Red Carpet Moment
Videos from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles show Taylor and Roberts laughing and smiling together as Roberts greeted the rising star. Taylor could be seen wiping away tears during their meeting, later describing the encounter in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“It was too much happening tonight. She parted the sea for me,” Taylor said, describing the moment Roberts cleared the way for her. “It looked so magical that when she came close to me, [I said,] ‘Don’t come another step, don’t come another step further. My eyes is getting watery.’”
She continued, “I could not believe that I was meeting her. She’s literally one of my heroes, and what she poured into me literally had me crying… She poured so much life into me, and I needed that. Oh my God, that was amazing.”
Golden Globes Success for One Battle After Another
The emotional meeting came on a night already filled with triumph for Taylor. She won her first Golden Globe for her performance as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another. The film also took home the award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, presented by none other than Julia Roberts herself.
Writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed the film, also celebrated wins for Best Director and Best Screenplay, adding to the night’s accolades.
“I’m still gagging right now,” Taylor admitted in the press room when asked why the win felt so personal. “I’m just like, oh, my God. I’m so happy. I’m filled with so much gratitude. I don’t take any of this for granted. I don’t take any of it at all.”
Julia Roberts’ Star Power on the Globes
Roberts, who received a standing ovation simply for taking the stage, presented the award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. She was also nominated for Best Actress for her role in After the Hunt, though the award went to Jessie Buckley for Hamnet.
Taylor’s encounter with Roberts highlights the genuine admiration she holds for Hollywood icons and shows the profound impact mentorship and recognition can have on young artists.
