Concerns have been raised over the worsening state of the Iberekodo Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, following a visit by the advocacy group Tracka, highlighted in a statement released by MonITng on Saturday.
The facility, which serves thousands of residents, was described as severely neglected and unsafe for medical care. According to Tracka, the PHC has no functional medical equipment, a broken roof, leaking ceilings, and rooms unfit for treatment, while the absence of running water forces health workers to travel long distances to fetch water before attending to patients.
“This is the only PHC serving thousands of residents, yet it has been abandoned to decay, denying the community access to safe and dignified healthcare,” the advocacy group said. The group warned that these conditions pose serious risks to patients and staff, particularly vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, and the elderly.
Despite the facility’s deplorable state, residents continue to rely on it due to a lack of alternative healthcare options nearby. Tracka called on Lagos State Governor Jide Sanwoolu, Ibeju-Lekki LGA Chairman Sesan Olowa, the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and the Federal Ministry of Health to urgently renovate, equip, and restore the PHC for the community’s benefit.
