A fuel tanker overturned at the Tincan Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, spilling a large amount of highly flammable fuel onto a busy road leading to Tin Can Island Port, a corridor notorious for heavy traffic and chronic congestion.
In footage obtained by SaharaReporters, dozens of residents—including men and women—were seen using buckets, jerrycans, and other containers to scoop the leaking petrol from beneath the bridge. Some even lay flat on the ground to access the flowing fuel, while others formed makeshift queues in an attempt to collect as much as possible.
As of reporting, there was no visible presence of emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), police, or officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The chaotic scene underscores the ongoing risks associated with fuel spills and the urgent need for rapid emergency intervention.
