Nigerian Army Dismisses Soldier for Leaking Video of Deadly Boko Haram IED Attack in Borno

The Nigerian Army has dismissed a soldier for allegedly leaking a video showing the aftermath of a deadly improvised explosive device (IED) attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Gubio, Borno State, which killed several soldiers.

Top military sources confirmed to SaharaReporters that the action followed the disclosure of the video, recorded shortly after the explosion. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one source said, “If they find out you’re leaking their secret, dismissal is the next step.”

The soldier, identified as Mansur Adamu (22NA/82/3795 PTE), was dismissed following the unauthorized internal disclosure. A photograph obtained by SaharaReporters shows him holding a placard confirming his dismissal.

The deadly incident occurred on January 12, 2026, when soldiers from 145 Damasak under 5 Brigade, Maiduguri were traveling in the area. Investigations confirmed that the blast was caused by IEDs planted by Boko Haram, not a gun ambush. At least nine soldiers were killed, with several others sustaining serious injuries.

The leaked video and photos showed the devastating impact of the explosion, highlighting the challenges Nigerian troops face in combating insurgency while maintaining operational secrecy.
