Osbourne Umahi, 27, son of former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, David Umahi, has officially entered the race for Ohaozara Local Government chairmanship under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Over the weekend, Osbourne purchased the party’s nomination and expression of interest form, priced at N30 million, and was welcomed at the APC state secretariat in Abakaliki by a large group of supporters. Party executives, led by state chairman Stanley Okoro-Emegha, described him as a promising young politician capable of driving development in the area.
Addressing party members, Osbourne thanked the people of Ohaozara for their support and pledged to prioritise youth empowerment and continue his father’s infrastructure legacy if elected. The APC local government primaries in Ebonyi State are set for January 25, 2026.
The N30 million form price has sparked controversy, given Nigeria’s monthly minimum wage of N70,000, raising concerns about accessibility for ordinary aspirants. APC officials say the fee aligns with party procedures and efforts to maintain effective governance and organisation ahead of future political activities.
