A late-night fire gutted Dumne’s Kasuwan Dadi grains market in Adamawa State, destroying large quantities of foodstuffs and other essential goods, early Monday morning.
The inferno reportedly began around 1:22 a.m., catching traders off guard as flames swept through sections of the market where grains and daily commodities are stored and sold. Kasuwan Dadi serves as a critical supply hub for Adamawa and neighboring states, making the loss a severe economic blow to thousands of families.
Eyewitnesses praised the quick response of local youths from Dumne, Shilon, Kinde, and Dimdima, who, along with mothers and elderly women, battled the flames in a bid to contain the fire and save remaining goods. Despite their efforts, many shops and stored items were completely destroyed.
While no casualties were reported, affected traders face significant losses, heightening concerns over potential food scarcity and economic hardship in the area. Residents have urged authorities to assess the damage urgently and provide relief to those impacted.
