A TikTok live session between popular influencer Peller and a Nigerian woman serving in the United States military has sparked widespread conversation online after the soldier revealed the financial benefits attached to her job.
The exchange, which quickly went viral, focused on the stark contrast between the earnings and welfare packages of Nigerian uniformed personnel and their counterparts abroad. During the discussion, the soldier openly spoke about the economic security provided by her role in the US military, including extensive insurance coverage.
She disclosed that in the event of her death while in service, her family would receive a substantial payout.
“If anything happens to me, my mother would get $500,000 as a death benefit,” she said, leaving Peller visibly stunned.
The soldier also spoke about her long-term plans, explaining that she intends to retire back in Nigeria while receiving a lifelong pension from the US government. “Once I retire, they’ll be paying me for life,” she added.
Further highlighting the disparity, she noted that even the lowest-ranking officer in the US military earns at least $5,000 monthly, with senior officers earning significantly more.
Peller, clearly amazed by the figures, joked about switching careers and asked whether enlistment was still possible for him, describing the income as potentially life-changing.
When the conversation shifted to the salaries of Nigerian police officers, the soldier simply smiled and declined to draw comparisons, a reaction that resonated with many viewers.
The video has since generated intense debate on social media, with users discussing institutional support, workers’ welfare, and the broader differences between functional systems and struggling economies.
