A violent attack in Gidan Sarki community, Tuge Ward, Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, has left multiple residents dead and more than 20 people abducted, according to reports.
The raid, carried out on Monday by armed groups locally referred to as bandits, also involved the theft of livestock and has forced entire communities to flee their homes. Women, children, the elderly, and other residents are reportedly taking refuge in forests, graveyards, rooftops, and under trees in fear of further attacks.
The security alert platform Bakatsine confirmed the incident on Tuesday, noting that the attack occurred despite a peace agreement previously reached between local authorities and the armed groups. This underscores the fragility of such deals, as communities promised safety continue to face violent assaults.
While the exact number of casualties remains unverified due to the displacement of residents and limited security access, locals expressed anger over the ongoing attacks and questioned the effectiveness of peace deals with groups that continue to terrorize civilians.
This violent incident is part of a growing pattern of banditry, mass abductions, and killings in Katsina State, despite repeated government assurances that security has improved. As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been issued by the Katsina State government or the police regarding the attack or plans to rescue the abducted victims.
