The Abia State government has taken steps to enhance security across hotels and other hospitality establishments in the state by establishing a verified register of all operators.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the measure was signed on Tuesday with a private firm, aimed at ensuring proper oversight of hospitality services, reducing risks to customers, and boosting travelers’ confidence.
Speaking at the Ministry of Justice after the signing, Abia State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Creative Economy, Mathew Ekwuribe, announced that the initiative will be reinforced with a new tourism law. He said the law would benefit both the state and hospitality operators.
Ekwuribe added that certain security protocols would become mandatory, including requiring customers to present valid identification before being logged into hotels.
“A lot of measures will be mandatory. For instance, guests must provide proper ID cards before lodging in any hotel,” he stated.
