The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that eight of the 14 pre-qualified associations seeking registration as political parties have successfully completed the upload of all required information and documentation.
Last month, INEC announced that only 14 out of 171 associations applying for party registration met the basic requirements to proceed, while 157 associations failed to meet the criteria.
In a statement on Thursday, Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, said the next stage involves detailed assessment and verification of the information and documents submitted by each association.
“This stage will ensure conformity with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s regulations and guidelines for political parties (2022),” the statement read.
As of Saturday, October 19, 2025, the eight associations that successfully completed the documentation process are:
- All Democratic Alliance (ADA)
- Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA)
- Abundance Social Party (ASP)
- African Alliance Party (AAP)
- Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA)
- Green Future Party (GFP)
- National Democratic Party (NDP)
- Peoples Freedom Party (PFP)
Olumekun emphasized that INEC remains committed to inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture.
Notably, the ADA was previously touted as a proposed platform by opposition forces seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, before the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gained prominence as the opposition’s preferred vehicle.
