Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup: Urhobo College targets victory over Ogbeijoh Grammar School

Urhobo College, Uvwie, is gearing up for the final of the Delta State Principals’ Cup, determined to capitalize on a boardroom decision that advanced them to the championship match.

The final, sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc in collaboration with the Delta State Government, is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Originally, Urhobo College had lost 3-0 to Otokutu Grammar School in the semifinals at Government College, Ughelli. However, after a protest by the Uvwie LG Champions over Otokutu fielding ineligible players, Urhobo College was awarded a spot in the final.

Led by Coach Fred Oteri, the team has been in intensive preparation, including a training camp at Kenwood Hotels and Suites, Effurun, sponsored by alumnus Chief Idama Amurun, also the sponsor of the Sheriff Oborevwori U-17 Unity Cup. The team has complemented their preparations with a series of friendly matches and support from the old students’ association.

Urhobo College will face Ogbeijoh Grammar School, the Warri South West LG Champions, in the final.

Delta FA Chairman, Chief Ken Nwanmocha, praised the organizers for enforcing rules and disqualifying schools that field ineligible players, emphasizing that it upholds the integrity of the tournament. He added that the Governor is expected to attend to celebrate the state’s emerging football talents.

This final promises a clash of determination and talent, with Urhobo College aiming to turn their controversial semifinal loss into a championship triumph.
