Sia’s Estranged Husband Daniel Bernad Demands Over $250K Monthly in Spousal Support to Sustain Luxury Lifestyle

In a dramatic turn in the celebrity divorce world, Sia Furler, the world-renowned Australian singer and songwriter behind hits like Chandelier, finds herself in a legal battle with her estranged husband, Daniel Bernad. According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Bernad has requested $250,856 per month in spousal support, as well as additional funds for legal and forensic accounting fees, to maintain the luxurious lifestyle the couple enjoyed during their marriage.

Divorce Filing and Background

Sia, 49, filed for divorce from 47-year-old Daniel Bernad in March 2025. The couple, who married in 2022 in an intimate ceremony in Portofino, Italy, share a son named Somersault, born in March 2024.

Bernad, a former radiation oncologist, reportedly stopped practicing medicine in 2021 to join Sia in opening a ketamine treatment clinic, a venture called Modern Medicine, in 2022. However, Sia ceased funding the clinic in March 2025, leaving Bernad without income despite an alleged agreement to continue receiving compensation through July 2025.

Bernad’s Spousal Support Request

In his petition filed in Los Angeles on October 9, Bernad outlined his request for $250,856 monthly spousal support, along with $300,000 for legal fees and $200,000 for forensic accounting fees.

Bernad states in the filing:

“Orders are necessary at this time because I am financially dependent on Sia, the breadwinner in our marriage. I have no income, and Sia has ceased all funding for Modern Medicine. Sia has the ability to pay me spousal support to maintain our financial status quo.”

He further emphasizes that he will need several years of training and rigorous exams before he can renew his certification and return to practicing radiation oncology.

Lifestyle During Marriage

According to Bernad, the couple enjoyed an upper-class lifestyle, with monthly expenditures exceeding $400,000 for private jets, luxury vacations, high-end dining, and a full team of staff. He claims the lifestyle was lavish enough that financial monitoring was unnecessary.

Bernad also alleges that Sia funded a hotel stay for him through July 2025, after which he moved into a private residence with a yearly lease of over $100,000, seeking reimbursement from Sia, which she reportedly denied.

Legal Fees and Forensic Accounting

In addition to spousal support, Bernad is requesting funds for legal and forensic accounting fees, stating these will “level the playing field” between him and Sia during divorce proceedings.

A spokesperson for Sia did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Sia’s Personal Life and Previous Marriages

Before her marriage to Bernad, Sia was married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2016. In 2019, she adopted two teenage boys. Her current family life includes her son Somersault with Bernad, highlighting her ongoing role as a dedicated mother amid the divorce proceedings.
