Gurugram, Oct 15, 2025: In a proactive effort to ease congestion along a key stretch affected by ongoing Metro construction, Gurugram traffic police, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and Metro officials have rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan. The measures target the eight-kilometre corridor between Signature Towers and Medanta Medicity, a stretch currently witnessing significant disruption due to Metro work.
Officials outlined that several steps are being implemented to ensure smooth vehicular flow and commuter safety. These include the installation of bollards, clearing space on both sides of the road along the Metro alignment, and widening of Chaudhary Bhaktawar Singh Marg in Sector 38.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Rakesh Mohan elaborated on the plan, explaining that during the construction phase between Millennium City Centre and Subhash Chowk, a 4.5-metre-wide lane on either side of the road will be barricaded for safety. “We have directed the GMDA to remove road mesh obstructing vehicular movement, install bollards, and repair the service road,” he said, emphasizing the coordinated approach being taken with all agencies involved.
The instructions came after a high-level coordination meeting at the DCP office, which included representatives from the traffic police, GMDA, Gurugram Metro Rail Corporation, and other stakeholders. During the meeting, officials stressed the importance of timely communication with the public. Construction agencies have been tasked with issuing advance updates regarding affected routes and timings, ensuring commuters are informed ahead of schedule.
Looking ahead, the construction of the Gurugram Metro underpass at Bakhtawar Chowk is expected to begin in approximately three months. During this phase, authorities plan to widen the road on both sides by temporarily removing the footpath and green belt to facilitate traffic movement. This, according to officials, is critical to preventing severe congestion along the stretch, which connects key commercial and healthcare hubs.
Traffic officers have been instructed to closely monitor vehicular flow, maintain lane discipline, and ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles. Dr. Mohan also appealed to commuters to exercise patience, follow traffic rules, and remain attentive to signage and police instructions during the construction period.
The plan is expected to provide much-needed relief to commuters who regularly traverse this busy corridor, while ensuring that Metro construction progresses without compromising road safety. Authorities have emphasized that such proactive measures are essential in rapidly urbanizing areas like Gurugram, where infrastructure projects often intersect with heavy vehicular movement.
With these interventions, officials hope to minimize disruption, safeguard commuters, and maintain the pace of Metro development, ultimately contributing to smoother and safer travel in one of Gurugram’s busiest zones.
