Andra Day Alleges Ex-Manager Stole $1.6M, Leaving Her ‘Facing Eviction’ Amid Head-to-Head Lawsuits

Golden Globe winner Andra Day is in the midst of a legal battle with her former manager, Jeff Evans, claiming he stole more than $1.6 million from her, leaving her financially devastated and unable to tour.

The dispute began when Evans’ companies, BassLine Management and Buskin LLC, sued Day on October 6, 2025, for breach of contract and unjust enrichment in Los Angeles Superior Court. One day later, Day filed a lawsuit against her ex-manager, alleging he was a “faithless fiduciary” who siphoned off her earnings.

“Ms. Day filed a baseless lawsuit against our clients one day after our clients brought an action against Ms. Day for royalties rightfully due to them,” Evans’ attorney said in a statement. “Our clients categorically deny the allegations and look forward to their day in court.”

Allegations from Andra Day’s Filing

Day’s complaint claims Evans and his companies:

  • Misappropriated nearly $1.2 million from her earnings
  • Kept 100% of payments meant for her business manager
  • Mischaracterized costs and expenses
  • Traveled extravagantly on her dime

The lawsuit also alleges that Evans’ actions left Day, 40, facing eviction, unable to pay her credit card bills, and financially unable to tour despite her success with The United States vs. Billie Holiday and her Grammy-nominated album.

Day’s attorneys claim that Evans and his companies admitted to failing to pay her more than $575,000, and that the full extent of the alleged theft remains under investigation.

“Evans abused his role as a fiduciary to scam Day with boundless greed,” the complaint states.

Evans’ Companies’ Claims

In their initial lawsuit, BassLine and Buskin allege Day owes at least $850,000, arguing that her failure to pay constitutes breaches of multiple agreements spanning from 2011 to 2023. They are seeking the amount owed, additional damages, and a jury trial.

Conversely, Day’s legal action seeks:

  • Termination of Buskin’s 40% claim on her net profits
  • Termination of BassLine’s 20% claim on her gross earnings
  • Damages, attorney’s fees, and court costs determined at trial

Current Status

Attorneys for Andra Day have declined further comment, and the legal battle between the singer and her former manager is ongoing.
